Frequently Asked Questions

These are the questions we get asked most often by our clients. If there is anything else you would like to know, please get in touch.

How much does an Auto-Rain irrigation system cost ?
This all depends upon the size of your garden. The normal range is between £500 and £5000. Please contact us if you want to discuss this any further, or we can arrange to visit you and do a free, no obligation quotation.

Can I run the system from my garden tap ?
The majority of systems are run from a garden tap, but it is dependent upon the water pressure and the size of your garden.Gardens needing more water pressure  or with pop-up sprinklers will require a pump.

Does an irrigation system use more water ?
No, it uses much less water, as no water is wasted and the water is more evenly distributed.

Do I need a mains electrical supply for the controller ?
No. The majority of systems used a battery operated system. Large gardens that need a pump and tank will need a mains supply for the entire system, including the controller.

How can I stop my system if it rains for a long time ?
By the push of a button, or we can install a rain sensor.

How long do you need to water for ?
Five to ten minutes per day is normal, but this depends on many factors, which we take into account when designing the system.

How long does it take to install ?
Obviously this is dependent on the size of your garden, but we can usually design and install a system in a few days.

Will the equipment be an eyesore in my garden ?
No. We take a great deal pride in making the system as discreet and invisible as possible. Pipework will be either run undergound or along the back of  flower beds. Pumps, tanks and control equipment can be installed in or behind sheds, garages and outbuildings. Tanks are available in finishes to match brick and stonework, and can be decorative shapes such as urns or vases !

Can my system be extended at a later stage ?
Micro-irrigation is very flexible and can be changed as your garden changes. Larger systems can be upgraded as as required.

Can a rainwater system be combined with a normal mains water supply ?
Yes, an extra supply valve has to be fitted to prevent possible contamination of the mains water supply.

What is grey water ?
Grey water, for irrigation purposes, is water from a bath or shower. Water from washing machines, dishwashers and sinks, etc has too many additives and is not recommended for irrigation
